Essential Preparation: Coinbase AND ETH Setup

To join, you MUST set up a Coinbase account and buy Ethereum (ETH) at least ONE WEEK before the event.

How Much ETH?
• Minimum: 20€ ($20) worth of ETH.
• Why: Covers gas fees for minting NFTs and blockchain interactions.

Why ETH Matters
• Every Ethereum action (e.g., minting NFTs) requires gas fees, paid in ETH.
• Fees vary based on network demand and fund transaction processing.

With 20€ of ETH, you can:
• Mint NFTs at each stop.
• Pay for OpenSea and smart contract fees.

How Ethereum Works and Why ETH Is Required

Ethereum is a decentralized blockchain run by a global network of computers. Each transaction—like minting an NFT—requires a gas fee to reward validators who secure the system.

Why Gas Fees?
1. Support Validators: They verify transactions.
2. Prevent Overuse: Fees discourage spam.

Eco Note
• Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake (PoS) cuts energy use by 99%.
• XERAK’s lightweight pixel art further reduces environmental impact.

START OF THE NFT HUNT

île Saint-Louis

Iconic Figure: Charles Baudelaire

Reason: Baudelaire, the famous 19th-century poet, briefly lived on Île Saint-Louis in the Hôtel de Lauzun during the 1840s. His time there reflects the island’s evolution into a haven for artists and intellectuals, drawn to its tranquil, timeless charm.

Riddle:
I’m a poet of gloom, with flowers of sin in my verse, On an island of peace, my dark thoughts did immerse. Two islets became one, a haven so grand, Near Notre-Dame’s shadow, my quill touched the land.

Where am I?

Answer: Île Saint-Louis

Clue Explanation: "Flowers of sin" nods to Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal, "island of peace" and "two islets became one" describe Île Saint-Louis’s history, and "near Notre-Dame’s shadow" pinpoints its location on the Île de la Cité’s quieter neighbor.

2:30 PM

Hôtel de Ville

Iconic Figure: Étienne Marcel

Reason: Marcel, the Prévôt des Marchands in 1357, bought the Maison aux Piliers, laying the foundation for the Hôtel de Ville as a municipal seat. His revolt against royal power ties him to the site’s early history as a symbol of Parisian autonomy.

Riddle:
A merchant I was, with a rebel’s bold cheer,
I bought a pillar’d house, where power drew near.
By the river’s edge, my dreams took flight,
A hall now stands, reborn from fight.

Where am I?

Answer: Hôtel de Ville

Clue Explanation: "Merchant" and "rebel" refer to Marcel’s role and uprising, "pillar’d house" is the Maison aux Piliers, "river’s edge" indicates the Seine, and "hall now stands" points to the modern Hôtel de Ville.

3 PM

CONCIERGERIE

Iconic Figure: Marie Antoinette

Reason: The last queen of France, imprisoned in La Conciergerie from August to October 1793 during the French Revolution, is its most famous inmate. Her confinement and execution mark the site’s dark legacy as a revolutionary prison.

Riddle:
A queen in a cage, my crown cast away,
In a palace turned prison, I met my last day.
By the river’s flow, where justice was grim,
My fate was sealed, with a blade’s sharp hymn.

Where am I?

Answer: La Conciergerie

Clue Explanation: "Queen in a cage" identifies Marie Antoinette, "palace turned prison" reflects La Conciergerie’s history, "river’s flow" is the Seine, and "blade’s sharp hymn" alludes to the guillotine.

3:30 PM

Place Dauphine

Iconic Figure: Henri IV

Reason: Henri IV, the king who ordered Place Dauphine’s creation in 1607, is its foundational figure. Named for his son, the Dauphin (Louis XIII), the square embodies his vision to modernize Paris and enhance the Île de la Cité.

Riddle:
A king with a beard, I shaped land anew,
Named for my heir, a triangle grew.
By the bridge I built, my legacy stays,
A quiet square hides in history’s maze.

Where am I?

Answer: Place Dauphine

Clue Explanation: "King with a beard" is Henri IV (often depicted thus), "named for my heir" refers to the Dauphin, "triangle grew" describes the square’s shape, and "bridge I built" is the Pont Neuf nearby.

4 PM

LA SAMARITAINE

Iconic Figure: Ernest Cognacq

Reason: Cognacq founded La Samaritaine in 1870, turning a small shop into a retail empire. His vision and partnership with Marie-Louise Jaÿ made it a Parisian icon, reflecting its story of ambition and innovation.

Riddle:
A vendor I started, with goods to share,
By the bridge’s end, I built my lair.
Everything you seek, my motto did claim,
Art Nouveau shines, in my store’s famed name.

Where am I?

Answer: La Samaritaine

Clue Explanation: "Vendor I started" is Cognacq’s humble beginnings, "bridge’s end" is the Pont Neuf, "everything you seek" echoes the motto, and "Art Nouveau shines" highlights the store’s architecture.

4:30 PM

PYRAMIDE DU LOUVRE

Iconic Figure: François Mitterrand

Reason: Mitterrand, as president, initiated the Grand Louvre project in 1981 and chose I. M. Pei to design the pyramid, completed in 1989. His bold decision ties him indelibly to this modern monument’s controversial birth and lasting legacy.

Riddle:
A leader of France, with a vision so grand,
I placed glass in a court, dividing the land.
Through my great works, a treasure’s gate rose,
In a palace of art, my legacy glows.

Where am I?

Answer: Pyramide du Louvre

Clue Explanation: "Leader of France" is Mitterrand, "glass in a court" is the pyramid in Cour Napoléon, "great works" refers to the Grands Travaux, and "palace of art" is the Louvre.
